What was that? What did you say? If you haven’t noticed, here at Vegi we are a very lively, colorful and passionate bunch. We take pride in the quality of our work, the compassion of our team and overall desire for equity and justice. On the back of each labeled product, you will find an inspirational or social statement that is either currently trending or has become a staple saying in hip-pop culture. Each product will have its own statements and sometimes we will host competitions where our customers can get their statement on a label, with a credit to them. Below you will find an explanation for each of our current statements and why we wanted to share them with you!
ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER
The original statement and movement of “Black Lives Matter” began in 2013 in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the murder of Trayvon Martin. Three black women founded this black-centered political will and movement building project that has now expanded into over 40 different chapters nationwide. The addition of “ALL” to “Black Lives Matter” is an affirmation that we include the lives of Black queer, trans, disabled, women, undocumented, and all Black live along the gender spectrum.
PAY WOMEN EQUALLY
It’s unfortunate that we’re still talking about the gender pay gap but women get paid about $0.80 for every dollar a man makes. This is even less for mothers and even still less for women of color.
SI SE PUEDE!
Meaning “Yes, we can!” in English, a term rooted in the struggle of working-class Latinos, it was the rallying cry of the United Farm Workers Union in the 1970s. Co-founders Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez adopted the motto during a 25-day fast in Phoenix, Arizona where they were trying to organize farm workers to demand fair wages and better working conditions. The phrase has been widely adopted by other labor unions and civil rights organizations and drew widespread political and media attention as a rallying cry during the U.S. immigration reform protests.
WOMEN DO IT BETTER
As the saying goes, if you want something done right-do it yourself. If you want something done better, ask a woman.
DRINK WATER. MIND YOUR BUSINESS
A popular social media saying dating back to about 2016, is mostly self-explanatory. In a world where we tag out locations, the people we’re with and the places we shop it’s easy to caught up in opinions, hot takes, and nonconstructive criticism. So, we narrowed down the list of things to do all the way to the basic necessities. Drink your water, stay hydrated and mind your business- whether it be the business that pays you or your own personal business. Staying in that helps you stay out of everything else!
WEAR THE SHORTS, SIS
Another saying popularized by social media. It is meant to empower women to simply wear the shorts! Regardless of cellulite, dimples, stretch marks, veins, hyperpigmentation, etc. show off what you have and feel good about it <3
IT’S THE SKIN FOR ME
What does it for you? For some, it’s the hair. For others, it’s the outfit- maybe even the mani and pedi. For us? IT’S THE SKIN!
A WHOLE MOOD
Queen Bey herself said “I be like soul food, I am a whole mood.” The saying references the vibes, energy, or overall aura of a person or place. Stating that something or someone is a whole mood is a great compliment to the energy surrounding them. And as the Queen of the “hot girl summer” raps, “a mood and I’m moody” she empowers herself and others to feel all their feels and be in charge of them even if they come with a bit of attitude.
